Supporting Success
|
NACME is the nation's largest privately funded source of scholarships for underrepresented minority engineering students. Our scholarship program focuses on providing financial support to deserving African American, American Indian and Latino students, encouraging our university partners to develop effective recruitment and retention strategies and supplying industry with a steady stream of engineering school graduates. Since 1980, more than 20,000 NACME scholars have earned degrees and entered the engineering, science and technology workforce.
NACME Scholarship Program
In 2007, we grew our university partnerships to 49 spanning the nation. These schools have demonstrated a commitment "from the top" through "the trenches" to diversity in engineering and are working hard to meet the nation's increasing demand for engineers. NACME provides grants of at least $100,000 to each institution, which help them recruit, admit, educate and graduate successful minority engineering students. The schools serve as models of best practices in developing a "culturally competent" campus that welcomes and supports the achievement of all students. NACME disseminates lessons learned through our website, special publications and meetings across the nation.
NACME Partner Schools
Our relationship with these schools is based on their providing a welcoming environment and academic support to students. Each institution reports annually to NACME on student progress and has pledged to narrow the retention-to-graduation gap.
