NACME Launches Houston Pathway Program Generously Sponsored by The Bechtel Group Foundation
Houston, TX – July 10, 2024 –

The National Action Council for Minorities in Engineering (NACME) is proud to announce the launch of the NACME Houston Pathway Summer Scholars Program. This transformative initiative, sponsored by The Bechtel Group Foundation, aims to empower over 35 rising 11th-grade students in the Houston metropolitan area, equipping them with the skills and confidence to embark on successful journeys in STEM fields, particularly in engineering. From July 7th to July 20th, students will engage in a dynamic and interactive learning environment, led by experienced educators, and connect with industry professionals.
The program is structured to blend academic rigor with experiential learning, ensuring participants gain both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. Daily schedules will include a mix of lectures, interactive sessions, and group projects, culminating in a capstone project showcasing students' learning and achievements.

Curriculum Highlights:
The program's curriculum is thoughtfully structured to cover a diverse range of engineering and college readiness areas, ensuring a holistic and enriching learning experience. Some of the key components include:
1. Foundations of Computer Science: Students will delve into the basics of computer science, learning coding, algorithms, and problem-solving techniques.
2. Mastering Functions & Linear Regression: This module will enhance students' mathematical skills, focusing on functions and linear regression, which are essential in various engineering fields..
3. College Applications, College Lists, and College Essays: Comprehensive guidance on the college application process, including how to create effective college lists and write compelling college essays.
